Beneath The Aurora

Beneath the Aurora is a third‑person, low‑poly platforming game that combines mythological storytelling with an environmental message. Set in a fractured world damaged by corporate overharvesting, the game follows a small pilgrim tasked with restoring balance before the collapse of multiple colliding realms. Players must travel between floating islands to recover fragments of a sacred seed, allowing the World Tree — the force holding the world together — to be replanted and chaos to be halted.

Developed in Unreal Engine, the game features a distinctive low‑poly art style that encourages imagination while reinforcing the sense of a fragile, interconnected world. Drawing inspiration from multiple mythologies, the most prominent influence is Norse mythology’s World Tree, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

Beyond its platforming mechanics, Beneath the Aurora functions as a cautionary tale about unchecked consumerism and the pursuit of infinite profit. The project highlights the irreversible damage caused by environmental neglect, using interactive gameplay to communicate the consequences of prioritising capital gain over ecological responsibility.
