Painted Voices: Trans Resistance Through Art

Painted Voices: Reclaiming Queer Resistance Through Art is a series of six paintings that explore trans lives, discrimination, and resistance through the visual language of queer activist art. Drawing inspiration from protest imagery, the work employs bold typography, restricted colour palettes, and emotionally charged compositions to communicate urgent and often uncomfortable social realities. By pairing confrontational language with striking visual design, the project asks viewers to engage directly with issues that are frequently ignored or marginalised.

The work is grounded in both lived experience and academic research, highlighting the ongoing effects of societal and systemic transphobia while challenging assumptions of social progress. Each piece functions as both an artwork and a statement, positioning painting as an active tool for resistance and visibility.

Alongside the physical exhibition, a digital archive presents the series online, increasing accessibility and providing additional context. Painted Voices demonstrates how contemporary visual art can foster awareness, empathy, and dialogue, continuing the legacy of queer protest through a modern artistic lens.
