Omoide – Memory Preservation Service
Omoide is a speculative experience design project that explores the future of Alzheimer’s care through the lens of emerging neurotechnology. The project imagines a therapeutic service in which individuals experiencing early‑stage Alzheimer’s or memory loss can safely record, preserve, and replay their own memories. Guided by a clinician and supported by a caregiver, users are encouraged to recall meaningful personal experiences, which are then made accessible through a dedicated playback device.
Informed by reminiscence therapy, Omoide is designed to support emotional wellbeing, improve quality of life, and encourage social connection. The concept is grounded in research into the lived experiences of people with early‑stage dementia, as well as the perspectives of caregivers, ensuring the project remains empathetic and human‑centred rather than purely technological.
Visitors are invited to engage with the speculative service and consider how memories might be transferred, preserved, and re‑experienced in a future where technology and care work together to support dignity, connection, and personal identity.
