Nexus
Nexus is a series of black‑and‑white, high‑contrast abstract photographs that examine the visual and psychological relationship between the female body and natural forms. By merging organic textures with the human figure, the project explores how this connection can encourage a more positive, holistic perception of body image. Central to the work is the idea of reclaiming the body as a natural and harmonious presence rather than a sexualised or objectified subject.
Grounded in theoretical research, Nexus engages with discussions around the male gaze, the exploitation and objectification of women, and the documented positive effects that exposure to nature can have on self‑perception and wellbeing. Through abstraction, the photographs deliberately obscure identifiable features, shifting focus from the individual body to form, texture, and emotional response.
The series invites viewers interested in visual culture, feminist discourse, and abstract photography to reconsider conventional representations of the body. By positioning the human form as an extension of the natural world, Nexus encourages reflection, alternative perspectives, and open discussion about how images shape our understanding of identity and self‑worth
